apps android market

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the differences between Apple's iPhone and phones based on Google's Android. While these discussions typically center on hardware, usability and the operating system, they rarely discuss the differences between the Android Market vs. the Apple App Store. There are a number of differences between the two, some of which primarily matter to end-users and others that matter primarily to developers.
Open vs. Closed System. The single biggest difference between the Android Market and the Apple App Store is the difference between an open and a closed system. Apple's system is a closed one. Applications must be submitted to Apple for review and Apple ultimately decides what may or may not be sold in the Apple App Store. In contrast, Android Market is an open system. Developers can directly publish their applications to the market without having them filtered through a central authority. This means that the Android Market is likely to have a greater variety of applications and content but end-users have to accept that the applications are not being screened. There is a definite trade off. The Android Market does support a community rating and comments section, however, which helps buffer against poorly designed or malicious applications.
Refunds. Another big difference between Android Market and the Apple App Store deals with paid applications. The former allows an end-user to obtain a refund by uninstalling the application within 24 hours of purchase. This makes it much safer as an end-user to purchase an application. If you buy an app that does not work properly or does not seem to meet your need, uninstall it within 24 hours and you get a full refund. The Apple App Store does not offer refunds on applications, so while the applications are screened by Apple, it is still buyer beware. You need to make sure an application will meet your needs before you purchase it.
Developer Initiation Fee. Another notable feature that distinguishes the two stores is how much it costs a developer to join. Android Market charges a fee of $25 to sign up as a developer. This fee then allows you to publish your apps in the market. The Apple App Store charges $99 to become a developer. Keep in mind that paying this fee does not mean your application will get added to the app store. Apple reviews all applications for acceptance so paying the fee does not guarantee that your app will be published. Both markets charge 30% of any paid application sales. Apple keeps this 30% while Google pays the 30% to the wireless carriers. This may result in greater cooperation from and adoption by wireless carriers for Android.
Competition. For a developer trying to get a new application noticed, there is less competition in Android Market. Currently Android Market hosts about 20,000 applications while the Apple app store has over 100,000 applications. There is a lot more room for new and innovative applications in the Android market.
There are a number of differences between the Android market vs. the Apple app store. Some of these differences matter more to developers and others to end-users. Being an open system and offering refunds to end-users makes the Android market a great asset for end-users. The openness ensures a greater variety of offerings and the ability to get a refund makes trying a paid application a low-risk venture. For developers, Android offers a lower cost to get started and an arena with much less competition in which to make your application stand out.

netflix iphone

The Netflix iPhone application is one of the top 100 in the Apple App Store. Also available to iPad and iPod touch users, the Netflix iPhone application gives users the ability to watch the same movies and television shows right from the iPhone. This instant streaming app for iPhone is free for users; however, it does require a Netflix subscription to utilize its features.
About the App
The application requires users to sign in to their Netflix account before downloading and using it. A basic Netflix account costs $8.95 a month and the app will run on any device using iOS 3.13 or newer. The basic account allows users to rent a single DVD at a time, which ships to the user's home in addition to allowing users to watch as many movies and television shows they want from their computer. However, to use the iPhone application, the subscriber must subscribe to the unlimited plan after the trial period expires. Additionally, if users want to watch these movies and shows from other devices, they must subscribe to the unlimited plan as well, which is more expensive.
After logging into the Netflix account from the application, users are given a choice of what they want to do; browse based on previous searches, browse new movies or new television shows and browse "Movie's You'll Love." Additionally, users can choose from various tabs to switch from the home page to genre listings, a search page, and an instant Queue page if the user's Netflix account has one.
Movie and Video Playback
Playing videos using the Netflix iPhone application is allowed on both the 3G service and Wi-Fi network service. However, those without unlimited data plans should watch on Wi-Fi, otherwise, they would incur massive overages on their bill. However, if using the 3G network, keep in mind that the video buffers constantly as compared with Wi-Fi, which plays seamlessly; no buffering or other hiccups. Once the video starts, users are presented with a slider bar so they can fast forward, pause, rewind and stop the video.
This app allows users to pick up where they left off if they have to stop a video in the middle of playback. Additionally, if a phone call or text message is received in the middle of a video, the video will pause itself to alert the user. The user can reject or accept the call or message and the app will resume where it left off once the action is taken.
Downfalls with this App
While the Netflix application is the most popular movie viewing application available on the iOS platform, the app itself lacks a few distinct features, which should have been included since users are required to sign up for an unlimited account. For example, the app lacks some of the genres found when using Netflix at home. Additionally, users cannot synchronize their video orders from the application. For example, users cannot watch anything they have ordered at home. They must re-order the video from the app using the Watch Instantly Queue instead. Additionally, the Watch Instantly Queue cannot be re-ordered so the titles added must be added to the bottom of the list only.
Overall, the simple fact that the iOS platform can finally stream video is a feature that many users are happy to have. Not only does the Netflix application whet the appetite for this newly acquired feature, but it does it better than others do. With an average user rating of three and a half stars out of four, the Netflix app for iPhone is one of the top rated and for good reason.

google voice iphone

Google and Apple are a little like BP and water; they don't mix, at least not well or very willingly. 18 months ago Google submitted Google Voice to Apple's store for use on iPhones; two months after that Apple decided not to accept it, or any third-party apps that used Google Voice functionality.
According to a Techcrunch article, Apple removed Google Voice because it was too similar to the built-in calling system on the iPhone. In a somewhat defensive response it added that it hadn't rejected the app outright, but was still considering it for approval. And don't we all know how long consideration takes.
Things got a little nasty and the government got involved, but now all is roses and iPhone users can happily download the Google Voice app and use it to their hearts' content, provided they live in the US and have iPhone models with at least iOS 3.1.
iPhone users won't be denied any of the functionality that other smartphone users enjoy; they'll benefit from cheap international calls, free text messaging to US numbers, voicemail transcription and Google Voice numbers will be displayed on caller ID systems. According to Google's blog, Google Voice features also include push notifications, so that you are aware the instant you receive a new voicemail or text message and calls being placed via Direct Access Numbers, so they connect just as quickly as regular phone calls.
MG Siegler (Techcrunch) cautions those familiar with using Google Voice on other devices that using it on the iPhone is a little different. As a result of the aforementioned tiff, Google Voice won't take over the iPhone's calling capabilities. To use the application you actually have to open it. Once you do so, however, you can make calls directly from Google Voice, send and receive texts and listen to voicemails.
According to many reviewers, the best thing about the Google Voice app is that it is free, but there is much more to the app than that. Evan Selleck (Slashgear) is a big fan of the fact that the app runs natively on the iPhone, he also likes that the messages between users and their contacts are threaded, which makes it easy to keep up with conversations. There's also the fact that users can read their history, just in case they need to check up on something. The only real hiccup Selleck found was some redundancy in notifications.
A review of Google Voice on the LA Times blog was less kind. The positive points, according to the LA Times, include simple setup, push notifications for new texts and voicemail and the ability to set up "quick dial" contacts or favourites (with photos). The less positive points include too many glitches (system freezes which require a restart), the tortoise-like pace when it comes to updating the quick dial function, and the erratic nature of the contacts functionality in general (apparently it ended up pairing the wrong face with the wrong name, and despite numerous attempts to create a preferred list order, it kept reverting to the original). There are some issues with keypad functionality, customisation options are limited and you can't archive or mark messages as read.
Overall the response has been good and many people are just thrilled to bits that they can finally access the app on their iPhones. International iPhone users will have to wait until 2011 before they can rejoice, but there is more good news on the Apple horizon (if you're a Google lover that is). Google is working on ways to bring Google Voice to the iPad and iPod.
Apple had better watch out; it seems that a total Googlification is imminent.

att iphone

AT&T recently launched the U-verse app for the iPhone 4. It is an application that allows customers to browse the TV guide, set favorite shows so you see them quickly, set DVR recordings, and watch SELECT recorded shows. iPhone 4 users can utilize the app when connected to a 2G, 3G, or Wi-Fi network. There have been mixed reviews of the product as indicated by a two and a half star rating out of 5 stars in Apple's App store. For most, what the app is able to do in connecting to the DVR and their U-verse package is acceptable; it is what the app does not do that leads to most of the negative comments. The question is, will AT&T take any action to move the app toward the 4-5 Star rating?
First, let's review some positives about the AT&T U-verse mobile application. From almost all accounts the app does exactly what it says it is going to do. Over a 2G or 3G network iPhone4 users can access the TV Guide and set and manage their home DVR, which is very cool. There have been a few that have said a recording they set didn't work but since the recent app update that seems to be a rare occurrence. Furthermore, people have raved about the downloadable content from the AT&T U-verse application. On the iPhone 4 the quality of the videos are impeccable and they do not take too long to download with a Wi-Fi connection. So the app delivers as promised, but why the low rating?
There are a few major complaints about the application that are universal across the board for users. While the app itself is free, to actually access downloadable content an iPhone 4 user must also be signed up for a U300 U-verse package or better. The U300 package is selling for $82 a month without HD channels. If a customer has any package less than the U300 they will not be able to download any shows to their iPhone. Also, the shows that are available for download are the choice of AT&T. It is not live streaming television, or even shows that have been recorded on the users' home DVR. Many are upset that they can't watch the shows they recorded and insist this is the main issue AT&T should address. Finally, recorded shows are only available for download over a Wi-Fi network. Just like FaceTime, iPhone 4 users cannot use what would be a popular app because it is tethered to Wi-Fi. The bandwidth requirements are understandable but are they enough to keep the ratings low?
The AT&T U-verse mobile app seems to be a good, but not great, mobile application. The app does what is expected of it but does not deliver exactly what people are looking for. It is useful for managing your home DVR from the iPhone. However, if someone is looking to watch live streaming television or the shows they have recorded this is not the app to do it. Perhaps some of the army of iPhone 4 testers are fine tuning a full featured app right now?

Droid X for "Excellent"
Motorola hits another homerun with the Droid X. I'm not certain what the "X" stands for, but I'm going to say that it must stand for "Excellent" because it is. Let me tell you why I have come to that conclusion.
Basic Specs
The first thing that will grab you is the humungous 4.3 inch touch screen, and its brilliant WVGA edge to edge display that supports up to 16 colors. Remember the old three and four color screens we used to get so excited about?
Its sleek, shiny black case measures 5.02" x 2.57" x.39". It has a slight hump on the back presumably to accommodate the camera and flash-more about that later. It weighs in at 5.47 ounces. So, it's not going to make your pants fall down if you put it in your pocket.
The Droid X runs on the Android 2.1 with the Motorola platform. Version 2.2 (Google Froyo) should be available soon. It features a 1.0 Ghz processor with plenty of hunk and 8 GB of internal memory. With a micro SD slot, you can get up to 32 more Gigs of memory. It comes with a 16 GB card installed.
A 540 mAHLi-ion battery is rated to provide up to 480 minutes usage time and 220 hours standby time. But, in practice, I found that the battery can become exhausted rather rapidly, especially if you are multitasking with additional services such as GPS, Wi-FI or Bluetooth. Keep your charger handy or a spare battery.
Let's take a walk around the unit checking for buttons, inputs and outputs. On the top, we have a 3.5 mm jack for earphones, a microphone (one of three), and a power button. On the right side are two volume control buttons and a button to invoke the camera. There is nothing on the bottom unless you count the bottom of the screen in the front where there is another microphone plus Menu, Home Screen, Return, and Search physical hardware buttons. On the left side, toward the bottom is a micro USB port for a charging/sync cable. Below that is a HDMI cable port for audio/video output so that you can transfer content from the Droid for viewing on your TV. Nice. You can also output to a projector. On the back is an 8 MPX camera lens and a dual LED flash. On the bottom of the back is yet another microphone.
Camera and Video
The camera is to covet with its 8.0 MPX lens 1/1000 second mechanical shutter, auto focus, touch to focus, face recognition and panoramic modes features. The Droid X will share photos, video, and music with other DLNA compatible devices. (However, I didn't have much luck with this feature.) The 720 p ND video allows slow motion capture, fast action, and quick uploads to YouTube. It features directional audio capture with is three microphones that enhance sound while tuning out background noise. With HDMI output, you can play your recorded videos on your HD TV. Unfortunately, a cable is not included. But there is still no way to take screen shots, which is a pity.
Entertainment: Music-Movies-TV-Radio-Games
If you enjoy listening to music on your phone, the Droid should please you with its standard 3.5 mm jack for headphones, Bluetooth, Android Music Player, ability to create playlists, access to the Amazon Music Store of MP3 downloads, and FM Radio. There is also a Verizon VCast store available for the purchase of music.
I found the sound quality to be acceptable with earplugs, external stereo speakers, and with Bluetooth headphones.
If you're looking for video entertainment, the Droid X can deliver. It comes with an Interface app for Blockbuster video that allows you to stream videos. Of course, you must rent them. Unfortunately, there is no app for, nor could I even access Hulu on the browser to watch TV and movies. Fortunately, there is an app for Orb, which allows you to tune into your desktop computer remotely to access files, watch videos, and live or recorded TV. Also, I am happy to report that SlingBox now has an app for the Droid. It costs $29.95, and you must have a Slingbox installed on your TV, but it's well worth the investment. Welcome aboard Sling Media. There are some other apps for viewing more limited TV channels as well that are worth exploring. I only wish there were an application for Netflix streaming videos. Maybe I'll have to create one myself.
Droid X comes with an FM tuner that requires you to plug in ear buds that act as an antenna. There are many nice radio and music apps available as well. My favorite is Pandora, which is free. If you suggest a tune or a composer, it will create a playlist of similar items in the same genre and stream them to you. Nice.
If you are a gamer, there is a plethora of games in the Market for you to download. Many are free. The large screen, fast processor, memory and great graphics combine for a pleasant gaming experience. I haven't tried it yet because I don't have an HDMI cable, but I suspect it may also be possible to play games from the X on your HDTV or on a projection screen.
3G Mobile Hotspot
Another attractive feature of the X is that it can perform as a Wi-Fi router connecting up to five other devices using Verizon's 3G network. Unfortunately, this service costs an additional $20 per month, and there is a 2 GB cap on usage.
Using the built-in Wi-Fi feature will generally give you a much faster connection to the Internet and save possible billable connection time via 3G.
Apps and Software
As Android is a Google platform, it offers many Google mobile apps such as Maps, Voice, Latitude, Calendar, Push Gmail, Talk, and integrated Google, Exchange, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter contacts. Let me caution you though. Adding all your social networking contacts to your regular contacts can be overwhelming and bog down the system. It offers advanced Speech Recognition, IMAP, POP, Hotmail, and AOL email support. Other Google and Verizon apps may be installed from the Android Market along with around 50,000 other paid and free apps.
I am pleased to report that my Google contacts and calendar ported over seamlessly to the X and synced with my desktop Outlook information. You can access your Google tasks and Docs. Strangely, while you can edit Excel docs, you cannot create or edit any other Microsoft Office documents, which is not exactly a plus in my book. However, there is a workaround with a third party application from DataViz.
My Verizon, Backup Assistant, and CityID are some of the other apps that come preinstalled that let you keep track of your account, backup your device, and have a caller's city appear on the screen. It also comes with a voicemail widget that I never could get to work properly. You can subscribe and pay a fee, for visual voice mail. But I much prefer Google Voice, and it's free.
Screens and Navigation
After turning on the device and unlocking it with a finger gesture, a home screen appears sprinkled with apps and widgets. Navigation is accomplished with finger gestures. You can flick to six different screens that you can customize to suite your tastes. You can even customize the background with pre-loaded graphics or provide your own.
One of the six screens is set up for quick access to your favorite contacts. It did not work well for me. My first four contacts displayed with large photos, the next four with smaller photos, the next four would not display photos at all, just a blue box with a gear in the corner. Tech support was not able to resolve this issue.
Another screen is set up with a music widget for easy access to your favorite tunes and playlists.
At the top of another page is a widget that gives quick access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Phone, and GPS, which I appreciate.
Another page comes with widgets for news and RSS feeds already set up for you. Of course you can remove these if you wish or add more icons of your own choosing to any of the six screens.
Google Voice search allows you to take charge of your phone and tell it what to do. You can search on the phone for such things as contacts, tell it to call someone or pull up an app or file. You can search the Web orally or find a business or address and then navigate to it. If you have an urge to be dictatorial, here's your chance to be the boss.
Keyboard
Unlike its predecessors, the Motorola Droid X does not have a slide out lateral keyboard. For me that it is plus. I do not like slide out keyboards, and I especially don't like lateral ones. They are bulky, mechanical, and just something more to go wrong. I don't appreciate being forced to use two hands to type if I don't want to. I really like the onboard input panel for Droid X.
The X also comes with an onscreen keyboard that opens automatically whenever text entry is required. If you prefer a larger keyboard, just orient the device horizontally, and the keyboard will shift to a wider, horizontal display.
In settings, it is possible to turn on such options as keypress sound or vibrate, auto capitalization, auto punctuate, word suggestions, and autocorrect errors. You also have your choice between the standard Multi-touch keyboard, and a new innovative one called Swype.
The Multi-touch keyboard expands the touched character, which reduces typos. You can slide your finger to the desired character if you make a mistroke. Holding the key down brings up every available variation of the letter including foreign characters diacritical markings. Another nice feature of this keyboard is the voice option. Touch the microphone and speak the text you want to create. It is surprisingly accurate. As a test I said, "I want to say that this is a very accurate system." The way it came out was, "I wanna say that this is a very accurate system." Whoops, maybe it's a little too accurate.
Swype is a pretty amazing keyboard option. You merely slide your finger around the screen from one desired letter to the next until the word is completed. When you lift your finger the word appears on the screen as if by magic. If there are other possibilities with the letter combinations, a list of choices to tap will appear on the screen. There is a tutorial to get you up and running. You can also use the speech to text engine with Swype, and there's a emoticon directory too.
Now comes the most exciting part for me, and that is the X's ability to connect to an external Bluetooth keyboard using an interface app called KeyPro. It works like a charm, and you are in the word processing, inputting business. There is a trial version to try before you buy.
The only problem is that there is no real word processing program available yet for the X. The work-around is to use Documents to Go by DataViz. It costs $14.99, but it's a most worthwhile investment if you want to turn you PDA into a road warrior. It will allow you to view, edit, and create Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF documents. I consider this an absolute must have.
It would be an altogether perfect world if the Android Market had an application that would display a Droid screen on your desktop and allow interaction with file drag/drop, keyboard inputting, and mouse/cursor movement. Sometimes I really miss my Windows Mobile devices.
Another feature I appreciate is the you can tap and hold to make a string of entered text expand and the easily see where to place the cursor to correct a type. Nice.
Browsing
Browsing the Net with the big, crystal clear screen and fast processor on the X is a pleasure. The response time is snappy, and scrolling is smooth and fast. Enlarging the image with spread or retracted figure gestures works well. My only wish would be that there were an option to configure a Webpage to fit the screen as you can with a Windows Mobile device. This is a much better way to view a Webpage on a handheld device because you don't have to scroll all over the place. I would put this option on my list wish for Droid developers.
There are many attractive features associated with the browsing experience. For example, you can tap on the star on the right side of the address bar to mark a favorite. It then appears on the favorite screen for easy access. The favorites screen lets you view the bookmarks in a list or image view showing the home page. There are also tabs for Most Visited and History. You can even place a Webpage on one of the home screens for instant access.
By the way, you can watch YouTube in high resolution by tapping HQ on the lower right of the screen.
Syncing
By connecting your X to your desktop or laptop via the supplied micro USB cable, you can transfer files, videos, and pictures. With downloadable Media Manager, you can also purchase, store, and listen to music from the Verizon store. Unfortunately, the Media Manager only supports 32 bit systems. So, if you have a 64 bit system, you're out of luck. However, you can still connect to the X as if it were another drive and transfer files that way.
Accessories
The X comes in a pretty bare bones box with just a charger, a micro USB cable, and a mini quick start guide. To take full advantage of this marvelous device, you may wish to accessorize it more fully with a 32 MB micro SC card, an HDMI cable, a windshield mount for navigation, a charging/docking station, and perhaps a case to protect your investment. I plan to write reviews of some of these items in subsequent articles.
Conclusion
The Motorola Droid X is a supreme powerhouse of functionality with its big, high definition screen, 8 MPX dual flash camera and HD camcorder with an HDMI port for output to TVs and projectors. While it may not have as many apps yet as the iPhone, there are certainly enough to keep anyone busy, productive, and entertained while more are being developed for this relatively new platform.
There are several things I wish the X could do and hope they will be forthcoming. I wish it were possible to take screen shots. I wish it had the native capability to handle Office docs. I wish there were an app to place an interactive X screen on a monitor. I wish there were an option to configure Webpages for single column viewing without having to scroll sidesways. I wish there were a Netflix app for viewing movies, which would be much better, in my opinion, than Blockbuster.
I could go on with my wish list, but I feel confident that the Droid platform is a serious contender now and developers with place a lot of energy into creating new and wonderful applications to make it even better. I fear, however, that as an open platform in which every manufacturer can put its own twist on things using all different screens, processors, and resolutions, that it will be more difficult for developers to create apps that work across all Droid models and they will become discouraged. That is a problem iPhone developers don't have as much.
The hump on the back reminds me of the Hunchback of Notre Dame and makes the device appear to be top heavy. It's too bad that it doesn't come with an HDMI cable and a case to protect it.
In any case, I am very pleased overall with the Motorola Droid X from Verizon, and I wish to give it my very highest recommendation. It is worth your serious consideration if you are looking for a new device. I would even encourage you to trade in your current model for this beauty.

ipad android

Welcome to the technology wars. Whenever there is something new on the market it is not long before everybody has a version of it. Choosing a best should not be predicated upon bells and whistles, but performance, price, options and functionality. Read on for a side by side comparison of the iPad and Android in these areas.
Performance: If the truth is told they both perform remarkably well. Primary functions the are the same. So what if the iPad doesn't have a camera or USB ports. It also does not support flash, which is an important feature since its browser is safari. With iPad you cannot do YouTube, more's the pity. Performance in all of the areas that count they are tied.
Price: If you are into buying apps that are fun then Android is the way to go. The best part about the Android is that all of the apps are free source applications. This means that you can tinker with and improve upon any app they have. This is not so with the iPad. Their applications are very proprietary.
Options: If you love Android it is probably because of the different options that it does offer. It has several versions on the market while the iPad is well the iPad. That is all well and good but Apple is the hardware master. Let's face it software (Google's forte) comes and goes, but hardware is forever. That is the power Apple has as far as being the number one brand name in hardware over Google.
The facts are that for the average user any of the pads on the market would do in a pinch. Which begs the question is more always better? Really there are apps for everything with the Android and that may just be its downfall. The speeds with which these apps are activated have already caused eruptions in families. The price of these seemingly innocent apps for the android can add up really fast. This is one problem the iPad doesn't have.
The Apple iPad is the top seller in the world but Google has been giving it a run for its money. With all of the different pads working with various Operating Systems they are a going to steal a lot of the iPad's thunder. The only thing that would really bring Apple down is that it is on the AT&T network. A net work known for its spotty and erratic service.
Buy what you like and what you can afford but for more continuous service the Android wind hands down. Bear in mind if Apple went with another service, other than AT&T they would be unstoppable.

android download

Mobile phones work well as pocket fit PCs because the Android OS is extremely flexible and is based on Linux Kernel. Smart apps can be easily created without having to code through complex procedures and are lucrative enough too. Many software development companies have taken the plunge in mobile app development and trying to provide cost-effective app development services.
Mobile app development is a critical process and it requires a developer's innovative skills and experience to create wonderful apps. The developers need to be constantly on their toes to understand client requirements and also know about the capabilities of a platform in its latest version. Android Application development is ruling the roost although there is immense competition in the field from the other players: iOS4 and Symbian to name a few. Alternatively, there are thousands of mobile app development companies who offer users great sites to download free Android apps in different categories.
Some of the main reasons for the success of the Android OS:

swype for android

There have been a lot of questions regarding the many Android keyboards available in the market and most of them are concerning which of it is the best for me. There is the Android standard keyboard, the new Swype keyboard, and also the multi touch keyboard released by Motorola on the Droid X. So how do they stack up and which is the best for you?
For something that is known as the Android standard keyboard, there is nothing standard about it. In fact, it is rather nice piece of software to go along with your smart phone. The latest version has a voice input feature which greatly amplifies the keyboard. Even on its own, it is still a magnificent piece of equipment. It is very responsive, and there are almost zero problems when in use. Even if your device doesn't offer you a choice of any of the other keyboards, you still are not missing out much as this is a solid contender.
It is pre-installed and configured which is always nice, and is amazingly to use. The slight disappointment to this standard keyboard is that it is not very clever when it comes to symbols and special characters. Just to press the "alt" button in the keyboard will somehow stop the whole flow and this is quite prominent when writing long messages. Another slight downfall is its poor word prediction although this is improved upon on HTC Sense equipped devices.
Meanwhile, Swype is very hard not to like. It is fast, new, and simply just too cool not to use it. In fact, almost all users seem to love this keyboard. You might need to spend a small amount of time to get used to it but once you do, you simply cannot let it get away from your hands. It has a really amazing "wow" factor. You essentially trace a line over the letters you want and they magically appear. Again, you might have to take some time to really get used to the idea of not being able to see the keys under your thumbs.
Being a better keyboard, it has a fast text entry, a unique way of displaying predicted words, the ability to insert words, and many more. The only minor complaint about the product would be the time needed to truly master the learning curve. At the moment, it is still not being able to be purchased in the market as it is still in a beta status.
The newcomer to the keyboard field is the new multi touch keyboard released by Motorola on the Droid X. As of now, it is exclusively on the Droid X but developers have already ported it to other devices like the Droid Incredible and others. This keyboard is much like the strong standard keyboard but improves on a problem you encounter when you start to really type fast on a touch keyboard.
As your typing speed increases, you will tend to be touching two letters at the same time. This is a problem for a standard keyboard as it will get confused as to the order of letters you are intending to input. The multi touch keyboard adds multi touch support so you can hold down one letter and keep typing and it will work just fine. Motorola has done a great job with this but we have to say that the predictive text just wasn't as polished as the standard keyboard or even Swype. We suspect that this will improve as updates are released.
When it comes to choosing which Android keyboard to use, the end result will be yours to make. Hopefully you have a device that supports all three so you can try them all to decide which is best for your style.

iphone nano

The tech news sphere was set alight earlier on this week after rumours surfaced from the business paper, Bloomberg BusinessWeek that Apple could be working on creating an iPhone 'nano' in an attempt to capture the lucrative budget mobile phone sector. The paper claims that after years of speculation, Apple is still working on a budget version of its flagship consumer device.
A source from the publication stated its source came from 'people who had been briefed on the plans' and that at least one other source had seen a working prototype that was at least a third smaller than the current iPhone 4 and uses existing components from the current generation to cut on production costs whilst the more pricey premium components are held back for its yet to be launched iPhone 5.
Further interest into the 'nano' iPhone was raised after the Wall Street Journal backed up the previous claims of a budget offering being lined up from Apple. Also rumoured was a revamp of its MobileMe service due to flagging sales and low subscription numbers, with a possibility of announcing that the service will be free to iPhone users and will be changed from a synchronised offering of mail, contacts and calendar to a digital content platform where users could back data up to. It could also include the long rumoured streaming service for iTunes after Apple's acquisition of the streaming based website Lala.
Unfortunately this news, whilst backed up by 'sources' can't be taken as confirmation, as throughout the iPhone's history there have been constant rumours of a smaller budget model mobile phone offering from Apple throughout the years.
The rumoured sources also leaked information that Apple might intend to make the forthcoming iPhone 5 a 'world phone' by including GSM and CDMA technology, as it had to launch a CDMA iPhone 4 variant in its home market to please American consumers. A teardown of the CDMA device found that the technologies and hardware were in place for a 'world phone' version, but the lack of a SIM card slot was the only thing from stopping the company from launching it, preferring to release two separate devices.
The iPhone 'Nano' will also have competition from the newly released, and formerly Palm, HP Veer smartphone. Launched at the beginning of February, the Veer is an evolution of Palm's Pre line of phones, with models being offered in small, medium, and large sizes. The Veer being the smallest, the Pre3 being the medium sized device and a new web OS powered tablet, the TouchPad, completing the large offering.
Only time shall tell whether these rumours prove to be true as having a budget device in a manufacture's line up can prove to be a killer option as seen with HTC's Wildfire handset which provides premium looks at an affordable price.
It would allow networks to offer the phone on competitively priced pay as you go plans that cater to the consumer's needs.

sprint iphone

So Apple made us a hot and sexy product. We all want one, even one of the big three networks in America wants one. Introducing the Sprint iphone, the Apple iPhone Look alike created by Samsung.
Don't get me wrong, the name of this phone is not called Sprint iPhone by the manufacturer, its just that it is clearly their version of the popular Apple product that aficionados gave it the name. Most reviewers give the opinion that the design and feature set are poorly laid out. It was like the manufacture just piece things together as they go along. One reviewer said that he thought it was an April fool's joke, when he read the forum feedback. But when he saw the actual phone on Sprint website, he realized that the joke was real and not April fooled.
The complaints and feedback are varied, from the key spacing being small, the screen skirting is being pinched by the bezel, and the numbers don't show up when dialing, how will someone know if they are dialing the right or wrong number. There is a big pause button, difficult to say when this needs to be used. One thing I must say is that the Sprint iPhone is better than the Chinese knockoff which if you handle to rough might just fall apart in your hands.
Now here are the good things about this sprint product. It is Windows Mobile, much better looking than the blackjack. It cost less than Apple's phone, it has some very nice features including GPS, expandable MicroSD memory, voice dialing and more. It also has a nicer look than many other phones on the market.
One thing I must add, while this phone is being beaten up as poor design, I have to say that before Apple spoiled us, this design would be considered sleek. Apple has spoiled us all and as such we are now accustomed to a new form factor that is larger than life itself.
My take is simple, if you can afford the Apple's offering, then get it. It appears to now be the defacto standard in mobile smart phones. However, if price is prohibitive and you want to be in the league without the price tag, and then get the Sprint iPhone look alike. The price to feature ratio is reasonable.
And that's my final answer, cheers.

android g1

It's rumble-in-the-jungle time for Apple, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft in the quest for extending their computer and Web dominance to mobile. Google launched their first mobile phone. Named the Google G1, it is positioned to compete with Apple's iPhone and RIM's BlackBerry. However, there are key differences in features and functionality that will influence T-Mobile customers in the United States and Europe to upgrade or entice others to switch carriers. The handset is the first of several expected to use Google's phone operating system, called Android.
Android has several other key advantages over the iPhone operating system. While Apple takes a top-down approach to app development - the company must approve every program that makes it into its App Store - Google will allow creators to upload any application to the Android Market without its review. The phone has a 3.2in touch screen, like Apple's hugely popular iPhone, as well as a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It offers high-speed internet access via the 3G phone network, as well as via Wi-Fi.
The phone comes preloaded with Search, Maps, Gmail with Contacts, Calendar, Google Talk, and YouTube. Also, unlike the iPhone, the G1 will not work with Microsoft Exchange nor can it be physically synced with computer-based calendar or contacts such as Microsoft Outlook. Those differences alone mean that the G1 won't scare the Apple and BlackBerry dogs in the game. Seamless interfacing between mobile and traditional communications and database features is a key requirement for travelling executives. The G1 needs to bridge that gap. The G1 will allow users to access webmail (Google's Gmail) and surf the net. This will allow Google to increase advertising revenues, as it could potentially start to dominate the mobile advertising market in the same way that its AdWords program dominates internet advertising.
A Google's opinion using a Mobile Phone today "does not just mean a phone call, but rather access to the world's information" and that mobiles will be one of the most important ways to connect to the internet in future. The phone may represent a threat to Apple's iPhone, iPod and iTunes, as with a Google G1 you can download digital music from amazon.com. As a result, about six million tracks will be available on the G1 at the touch of a button.
Unlike the iPhone, Google has allowed developers to create free software for the handset. Although Apple does let consumers download extra software, it is tightly controlled and many applications must be paid for it. The G1 will be available free to customers signing up for T-Mobile's £40 plus tariffs, which include unlimited data for web surfing.
On the flipside, where would-be competitors release a handful of predictable, often crippled products and services a few times a year - hi Nokia, bye Yahoo - Google floods market space with radical new value propositions, overloading the very circuitry of the industry - still driven by fear of cannibalization - and so short-circuiting the traditional dynamics of competition.
Analysts are skeptical whether the G1 can make an instant dent in the iPhone's market dominance, but predict that the platform has plenty of future potential. The G1 represents a promising start and Google has pockets deep enough to outspend and compete with its competitors. While the G1 isn't yet good enough to outperform the iPhone, the Android platform shows huge early promise.
Samsung and LG are already talking about designing something on the footsteps of the Google G1 mobile phone. The future of the phone relies heavily on the creativity of programmers who will use the android platform to offer new and powerful functions.
